In Atlanta, the food scene comes alive as spring begins to blossom, with a plethora of enticing culinary experiences popping up all across the city. March 2024 has seen the rise of remarkable dishes that have both delighted food enthusiasts and ignited a culinary revolution. Bringing flavors from the vibrant Caribbean, comfortable Southern corners, and even the adventurous Vietnamese streets to the forefront, here are the five best dishes we had in Atlanta this March.
John Hajash’s creation at a Dive Wine’s March 4 pop-up at Talat Market undoubtedly took the spotlight. The ultra-crispy half-chicken Milanesa captivated us with its playful presentation that we christened as the “giant chicken nugget.” Yet, it was far from just a visual gimmick. The texture was crunchy but not excessively oily, delicately balanced with a hint of zing from the gribiche. Overall, an absolutely delightful find.
The newly introduced J’ouvert’s jalapeño and cheddar cornbread undeniably elevated Atlanta’s all-day brunch atmosphere. The plump loaf paired with whipped goat cheese and roasted red pepper jam was a culinary masterpiece, reminiscent of the classic combo of crackers, cream cheese, and pepper jelly. Taste and satisfaction guaranteed.
Spotted at Rising Son, this frittata and biscuit brunch combination hit the spot perfectly. The house pineapple jam, with an expertly balanced sweetness, complemented the fluffy biscuit incredibly well. The portion size was perfect for a light yet fulfilling brunch.
Damsel surprised diners with the superbly presented and equally delicious lobster cones. Contrary to what one might assume, the flavor was not compromised for the aesthetics. The crispy, gluten-free cones were generously loaded with sweet, fluffy lobster, making an undeniable argument for why looks and taste can indeed go hand in hand.
Proving that salads are far from boring, the cabbage and crispy rice salad from Breaker Breaker made a mark with its robust variety of textures and flavors. The thinly sliced cabbage shreds, juicy orange segments, whole mint, basil, and generous dressing made this dish a pick for vinegar slaw devotees. A must-have for those seeking a refreshing, yet satisfying side dish.
In summary, the dining scene in Atlanta was buzzing with excitement and flavor fusions that truly expressed the culinary creativity of the city’s chefs. From the delightful chicken nugget illusion by Dive Wine Bar to the tastefully done lobster cones by Damsel, there was something for everyone to appreciate. As we look forward to what April holds, food enthusiasts can rest easy knowing that Atlanta’s restaurants and pop-ups are always ready to serve up the next great bite or cocktail.
