Atlanta experiences record high pollen counts this spring.
Atlanta has recorded an unprecedented high of 14,801 grains of pollen per cubic meter of air, surpassing previous records significantly. The pollen surge, primarily from trees like Oak, Pine, and Birch, has left many allergy sufferers struggling as spring brings this challenge. The city anticipates that the peak pollen levels may linger for several weeks, prompting health experts to recommend over-the-counter treatments and allergist consultations for those affected. As relief may come with upcoming rain, residents are advised to stay informed about pollen counts and manage their home environments effectively.
In a stunning turn of events, Atlanta has experienced what many are calling a “pollen explosion,” reaching an astonishing record high of 14,801 grains per cubic meter of air this past Saturday. According to experts in allergy and asthma care, this figure shatters the previous record set back in March 2012, which stood at just over 9,000.
This year’s remarkable count significantly outstrips last year’s peak of 8,740, marking it as the third highest on record. The overwhelming levels of pollen are primarily attributed to various species of trees, including Oak, Pine, Sweet Gum, Birch, and Sycamore.
As the city braces for more of the pollen season, experts anticipate that the peak may linger for several more weeks. Atlanta typically sees about a dozen days classified as “extremely high” for pollen during the spring, and already this year has recorded the sixth day exceeding this threshold.
