Atlanta Police Offer Reward for Information on 19-Year-old Mother’s Killer

Atlanta Police are offering a $5,000 reward to anyone who can provide information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the individuals responsible for the murder of 19-year-old D’Asia Hart. Hart, the young mother of a one-year-old daughter, was one of four victims caught in a firefight between a group of men near Georgia State University’s student housing, The Mix, and a RaceTrac gas station situated on John Wesley Dobbs Avenue.

Tragic Shooting Leaves Young Mother Dead

On the unfortunate morning of October 29, 2023, a heated altercation between several men spiraled out of control and led to a deadly shootout. Hart was walking nearby when she was struck and fatally wounded in the gunfire. She later passed away at a local hospital. Police have revealed that the assailants are still at large.

Police have released surveillance footage showing three persons of interest believed to be involved in the violent incident. One of the suspects was seen discarding an AR-15-style rifle before sprinting away from the scene. The police department is urging the public to provide any relevant information on the case, especially in regards to the identity of the three individuals.

Local Business Closes Following String of Violent Incidents

In response to this and a string of other violent incidents, including another lethal shooting in February, the RaceTrac gas station announced its permanent closure last month. The company’s CEO, Natalie Morhous, commented that the decision was motivated by both safety and economic considerations, expressing sorrow for the shocking acts of violence near the establishment.

Downtown Atlanta RaceTrac Faces Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The bereaved family of D’Asia Hart has filed a lawsuit against the gas station and the adjacent apartment complex, The Mix. They allege that the lack of security contributed to the young mother’s death as well as numerous other violent crimes in the area. The plaintiffs claim the businesses have a “documented history” of shootings, robberies, and assaults due to insufficient security measures.
