Flowing with Blessings: Atlanta Nonprofit Transforms Bus Into Laundry Station

“Flowing with Blessings”: An Atlanta Nonprofit Transforms Bus Into Laundry Station for the Unhoused

Stepping Up for the Homeless in Atlanta

Bolstering the efforts for addressing homelessness, an Atlanta-based nonprofit, Flowing with Blessings, converts an old school bus into a mobile laundry station for the unhoused. The resourceful and compassionate initiative is the brainchild of Nicky Crawford, who decided to put his blessings to work in service of those living on the streets of Atlanta.

“Plain and simple, I’ve been blessed, and I know God told me to do this,” Crawford said.

Mobilizing Essential Services for the Unhoused

For several years, Flowing with Blessings has provided basic services like showers, food, and clothing to the homeless population of Atlanta. The innovative nonprofit has recently added laundry service into the mix. The converted school bus accommodates multiple washers and dryers, catering to the critical need for clean clothes among the city’s homeless.

“They’re no different than us; they just, for different reasons, ended up on the street,” Crawford shared.

Crawford and his team frequently set up the mobile shower and laundry station outside Grady Memorial Hospital twice a week, aiming to serve as many homeless Atlantans as they can.

Promoting Health and Dignity Among the Unhoused

Flowing with Blessings champions the belief that cleanliness plays a crucial role in an individual’s health and well-being. Hence, the organization continually strives to ensure access to hygienic conditions for the city’s homeless population who, for whatever unfortunate circumstances, found themselves living on the streets.

Each day of operation, the thoughtful initiative successfully serves around fifty people, providing a modicum of dignity to each individual.

“If I can help them, then I’ve done my part,” expresses Crawford.

The Silver Lining for Atlanta’s Unhoused

One of the disadvantaged beneficiaries of Flowing with Blessings is Alex Calderon, who has had a tough journey for the past nine months. Calderon testifies to the confidence the services instill in him, asserting, “It brings a little bit of confidence, every time I come here, I try to keep myself as clean as I can.”

Crawford and his supporters aspire to turn what most people take for granted into an accessible luxury for everyone struggling on the streets.

Funding Flowing with Blessings

The majority of the initial funding for this philanthropic venture came from Crawford himself; however, Flowing with Blessings is a registered nonprofit and seeks to expand its reach and impact.
