Atlanta Leads Charge to Protect Southern Forests Through Conservation Event

The Fight to Preserve Southern Forests

Atlanta is taking the lead in championing the preservation of southern forests, home to nearly a third of the nation’s greenery. With family landowners owning almost half of these forests, the risks are on the rise as developers eye their potential.

By 2060, experts predict the South could lose enough forests to fill the sprawling depths of the Grand Canyon 19 times over! Imagine that!

Stepping Up the Conservation Movement

Enter Keeping Forests, an organization that’s hard at work in Atlanta, spearheaded by its determined Executive Director. Their mission? To promote economic opportunities that are both financially and environmentally sustainable, all aimed at saving these precious greenlands.

They’re not just focused on chopping trees—or should I say utilizing EVERY bit of them—from the branches right down to the sawdust. But they’re also maximizing the vast recreational and ecosystem services our forests offer, like carbon capture and clean water systems. It’s all about seeing the forests and their benefits in a new and holistic way.

Lights, Camera, Action!

Mark your calendars for an important event at SCADShow—where the southern woodland conservation movement will take center stage! On Saturday, November 16, the venue will open its green carpet at 1 PM, with a special screening of the acclaimed film Family Tree kicking off at 2 PM.

Family Tree shines the spotlight on two Black families in North Carolina, sharing their inspiring journey to build wealth across generations while also fostering healthy forests. Post-screening, expect an engaging Q&A session and panel discussion, perfect for those interested in learning how to get involved in the earth-saving cause.

A Gathering of Forest Champions

A panel of experts—including the film’s makers and featured families—will engage audiences and provide insights into conserving Southern woodlands for future generations. This isn’t just another event; it’s a movement rally crying for more hands on deck.

Admission is absolutely free—yes, you read that right! You can download your tickets from here. For those who wish to support further, opt for the Friends of the Forest tickets at $35, which even come with a snazzy limited-edition shirt.

Don’t miss the opportunity to be part of something transformative and vital—and to meet other enthusiasts who share your love for nature.
