Major Changes in Am Law 200 Rankings for Atlanta, Southeastern Law Firms

Atlanta, GA – Significant changes have been reported in the most recent Am Law 200 Second Hundred rankings for law firms based in Atlanta and the Southeastern United States. Among a total of 12 law firms, seven have climbed up in the rankings, three have dropped, and two have made it into the rankings for the first time.

Strong Revenue Growth

According to the rankings released this week, Southeastern law firms collectively grew their revenue by a significant 8.5% in 2023. This increase outpaced the overall 5.9% increase experienced by all firms ranked in the Second Hundred.

Atlanta-based firms including Smith Gambrell and Baker Donelson, were among the firms with impressive double-digit revenue increases.

A Shift in the Rankings

While some firms enjoyed marked growth, three firms saw a drop in their rankings for 2023. However, these rankings were offset by two other firms entering the rankings for the first time after being unranked in the preceding year.

The changes in rankings give an insightful reflection of how these firms’ overall growth fared against others in 2023.

Increased Profitability and Revenue

While several factors could be at play within the changes in the rankings, the two primary determinants of the risen rankings for the seven firms were their enhanced profitability and increased revenue. The drastic changes in the Am Law 200 ranking show a clear and positive trend for law firms in the Southeastern United States and Atlanta, indicating a potentially booming legal sector in the years to come.

Looking Forward

As more law firms successfully grow their revenues and lead their respective rankings, it’s clear the legal landscape in the Southeast and particularly in Atlanta is undergoing significant transformation. These changes not only attest to the robustness of the region’s legal sector but also point to the increasingly competitive nature of legal services in the United States.
