Atlanta Falcons Host 88 Prospects at Local Pro Day Ahead of 2025 NFL Draft

In the bustling city of Atlanta, excitement fills the air as the Atlanta Falcons recently held a local pro day at their practice facility in Flowery Branch, Ga. This year’s event saw an impressive turnout with 88 prospects hoping to catch the eye of the Falcons’ coaching staff in preparation for the 2025 NFL Draft.

From Local Talent to Draft Dreams

To be eligible for participation, players had to hail from the Atlanta metro area or have played at distinguished schools such as the University of Georgia, Georgia Institute of Technology, or Georgia State University. In stark contrast to last year’s pro day, which drew 59 draft prospects, this year’s turnout speaks volumes about the increasing talent pool in the region.

A Look Back at Last Year’s Yields

The fruits of last year’s pro day weren’t just a memory; the Falcons made some smart picks, snagging inside linebacker JD Bertrand and defensive tackle Zion Logue who were respectively selected as the No. 143 and No. 197 overall picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

This Year’s Lineup

This year’s pro day featured a balanced mix on the field with 35 offensive players, 45 defensive players, and 8 special teams hopefuls showcasing their skills. Among the many notable attendees was Robert Lewis, a wide receiver from Auburn who previously starred at Newton County. Additionally, three former standouts from Clayton County brought their talents: wide receiver Derwin Burgess from Georgia Southern, cornerback T.J. Moore from Mercer, and linebacker Trenilyas Tatum from Georgia Tech.

Draft Cap Scenario

As anticipation builds for the NFL Draft, Atlanta finds itself with a franchise-low of just five picks. The Falcons’ digital and creative teams have taken on an active role in the draft duties this year. In roster news, veteran cornerback Kevin King has re-signed for another season in Atlanta, while there are ongoing considerations regarding the secondary setup, particularly with Jessie Bates III, whose partner at safety remains uncertain.

Team Updates and Moves

Defensive depth is currently a concern for the Falcons, especially after losing two starters, Grady Jarrett and Drew Dalman, to the Chicago Bears. In a proactive approach, the Falcons signed edge rusher Leonard Floyd to a lucrative one-year, $10 million deal. Also on the roster front, Mike Hughes and Jordan Fuller have re-signed, while a former running back and return specialist has joined the Philadelphia Eagles.

Contract Extensions and Cap Space

In an effort to bolster their cap space, the Falcons have extended left tackle Matthews‘ contract to a two-year deal worth $45 million, effectively freeing up $11 million in cap space as they strategize their moves for the upcoming draft.

The Road Ahead

The Falcons continue to focus on strengthening their roster through smart free agency moves and a keen eye on the upcoming draft. As they prepare for a potentially thrilling season ahead, Atlanta fans are sure to be on the edge of their seats!
