Atlanta Falcons Bringing Girls Flag Football to 42 Georgia High Schools

The Atlanta Falcons have announced that 42 high schools across Georgia will receive grants from the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to establish girls’ flag football programs. The Falcons are hosting the Atlanta Falcons High School Showcase in partnership with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The event will feature the Women’s Flag Finals Championship Game on May 9-10 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The showcase will provide 200 young women the chance to demonstrate their skills in front of NAIA, NJCAA coaches, and NCAA representatives, potentially opening doors to collegiate-level play.

Promoting Female Participation in Sports

In 2018, the Falcons launched a pilot program for girls’ flag football with 19 high schools in Gwinnett County. The goal was to give young women more opportunities to participate in the sport. The program’s success led the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) to officially recognize girls’ flag football as a high school sport in December 2019, making Georgia the fourth state to do so. Since then, 265 high schools across Georgia have included girls’ flag football in their athletic programs. This initiative has allowed numerous student-athletes to pursue their passion and explore collegiate opportunities.

Expanding the Program

In addition to Georgia, the Falcons announced that the Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation will provide grants to 20 high schools in Alabama and 12 in Montana to establish similar programs. This expansion aims to empower more young women through the sport and provide them with a pathway to success.

With the growing popularity of flag football among high school girls, the Falcons are committed to supporting and encouraging female participation in sports. This initiative not only promotes physical activity and teamwork but also opens up opportunities for young women to excel in a competitive sporting environment.

Flag football has gained traction as a sport that emphasizes skill, strategy, and athleticism without the physical contact of traditional football. It provides a platform for young women to showcase their abilities and compete at a high level, paving the way for future success in athletics and beyond.

Encouraging Female Empowerment

The Atlanta Falcons’ investment in girls’ flag football highlights their dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering young women through sports. By providing resources and support to high schools, the Falcons are creating a pathway for female athletes to pursue their passion and achieve their goals.

As the Atlanta Falcons High School Showcase approaches, excitement is building among participants and spectators alike. The championship game will not only showcase the talents of young female athletes but also demonstrate the impact of initiatives like girls’ flag football in fostering growth, leadership, and success.

With 42 high schools in Georgia set to launch girls’ flag football programs, the future looks bright for female athletes looking to make their mark in the world of sports. The Atlanta Falcons’ commitment to expanding opportunities for young women reflects a broader movement towards inclusivity and equality in athletics.
