Atlanta is buzzing with enthusiasm as it embraces the growing presence of Dutch companies, particularly the software engineering and IT consultancy firm, Xebia. With its recent establishment of a U.S. headquarters in the vibrant Buckhead area, Xebia is excited to contribute to Atlanta’s dynamic tech landscape and community.
When Xebia set out to choose a location for its U.S. base, they had a wealth of options—New York, Seattle, or San Francisco could have easily made the shortlist, thanks to their booming tech talent pools. However, the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Sandeep Makwana, revealed to us that Atlanta emerged as the ultimate choice for several compelling reasons.
The world’s busiest airport, a huge concentration of Fortune 500 companies, and access to a strong network of top universities were all huge draws. But what set Atlanta apart in the eyes of Xebia’s leadership was its strong connection to the Netherlands.
It’s noteworthy that the Netherlands ranks as Georgia’s 8th largest export market, and this bond is set to deepen further. This meaningful connection was highlighted when Atlanta recently had the privilege of hosting the Dutch Royal Family, reflecting the growing economic and cultural ties between the two locations.
Currently, Xebia’s Atlanta office is home to around 70 dedicated employees, but the plan is to expand this number significantly. “Our raw material is people,” Makwana stated, emphasizing the importance of human capital for their growth. As the company continues to integrate itself into Atlanta’s technology community, more leadership and administrative roles will be filled right here in the city.
Xebia’s leadership is dispersed globally—Makwana himself is based in Austin—but the company’s strategy is clear: they’re committed to Atlanta and its tech scene. They are actively seeking talent and have open positions available for eager candidates looking to join a forward-thinking company.
In a touching move that underscores their commitment to community, Xebia has initiated what they call the Bikes and Trikes initiative. This fall, the company unveiled a plan to build over 100 bicycles and tricycles for elementary school children in the Atlanta area by the end of 2024.
The goal isn’t just to provide bikes; it’s about fostering community engagement and empowering underserved families. As Makwana explained, “Our Bikes & Trikes initiative reflects Xebia’s belief in the power of community. We understand that as we continue to innovate in technology, we must also innovate in how we contribute to society.”
By investing in the future of Atlanta’s children, Xebia is making it clear that they care deeply about the community in which they work, striving to bring joy and opportunities to local families. This meaningful act is just one example of how businesses can make a difference while enriching their brand in a new city.
With an expanding team, a solid partnership with the local community, and a strategic location, Xebia does not just aim to thrive in Atlanta’s tech scene; they strive to enrich it. As these Dutch innovators plant their roots deeper into the southern soil, it’s clear that exciting times lie ahead for both the company and the city.
So, whether you’re in tech or just a curious athlete, keep an eye on the developments at Xebia and the blossoming Dutch presence in Atlanta. The connection between these two cultures is only set to grow, fostering innovation and opportunity in the heart of Georgia.
