In an unsettling incident of violence, two women were reportedly shot in the early hours of the morning in downtown Atlanta. The altercation took place in a parking lot on Northside Drive, shaking the metropolitan hub. The victims, a 22-year-old and a 21-year-old, were reportedly inside a vehicle in the 500 block of Northside near Meldrum Street NW when the shooting took place.
The shocking incident occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. on June 11, 2024, according to Atlanta police. One woman was shot in the face and the other was grazed by a bullet. Post the horrifying encounter, the victims managed to transport themselves to a nearby hospital for immediate medical attention.
However, the shooter remains at large. The Atlanta police did not further disclose what led to the shooting incident or provide any information about a possible suspect.
This overnight shooting incident at Northside Drive follows several outbreaks of violence in Atlanta in recent times. Just yesterday, the Peachtree Center food court was the epicenter of a violent attack that left a family deeply shaken. Moreover, there were reports of a Gwinnett County Transit bus hijacking which is now being investigated by the Fulton County District Attorney who is seeking a special prosecutor for the case.
While there is a growing concern for safety following these spate of incidents, the Atlanta police have stepped up their vigilance. Patrols in the area have been increased and investigations are in full swing to identify the individuals or parties responsible for the recent violence. The local community is also rallying together in this trying period, organizing neighborhood watch groups and calling for increased gun control.
