Atlanta Buzz: The Stage Is Set for Dance Canvas’s Dazzling Season 17!
Hey there Atlanta! It’s time to put on your dancing shoes because Dance Canvas is back, and they’re bringing an electrifying line-up for their 17th season. Ready to groove in March 2025, the season is all about reconnection, celebration, and forward thinking, says their spirited Executive Artistic Director, Angela Harris. And yes, the curtain is going up at the iconic Rialto Center for the Arts, rekindling a partnership that goes back to the golden days of 2014!
The Magic of the CCDI
At the heart of this year’s sensational season is the renowned Choreographer Career Development Initiative (CCDI). Dance Canvas is pulling no punches as they arm up to 10 choreographers with the support and resources to premiere world-class dance works. And for art enthusiasts in Atlanta, it’s an absolute treat as they can delight in witnessing four out-of-state talents infuse new life into the local dance scene.
Stepping into the spotlight is Alexandra Light, principal dancer with the Texas Ballet Theatre, and Jameel Hendricks, former Philadanco sensation. These inspiring artists are all set to leave you spellbound with their dazzling choreographic prowess. With both of them trading center stage for the choreographer’s chair, it’s truly going to be a dance lover’s paradise!
Meet Some of the Exceptional Creatives
Savannah ‘Van’ Banks is all set to take you on a whirlwind of creativity with her commissioned work from the Middle Georgia Youth Ballet. From her days in Kennesaw State University to the Atlanta Film Festival, Van’s journey is as inspirational as her choreography. Meanwhile, Versaille Jones is continuing to amaze after showcasing in the Houston Barnstorm Festival and other notable platforms.
From Texas to France, the dance world is abuzz with Alexandra Light’s socially-driven choreography. Fresh from various prestigious residencies, her works are bound to stir the audience like never before. Then there’s Meaghan Novoa, wielding her magic at the High Museum of Art’s Dance Lab, offering open rehearsals for those curious about the magic behind the movements.
Dance Canvas: On Film Debuts
Oh, and if you thought this was just about live dance, think again! The Dance Canvas: on Film program is bustling with creativity too. The fourth season shines a light on fresh filmmakers like Tonia Boies, Kirsten Hamm, Melinda Matticoli, and Page Yang — all set to dazzle the screen with their innovative dance films.
