Atlanta BeltLine June 2024 Design and Construction Updates
Atlanta, – The Atlanta BeltLine has recently released its June 2024 design and construction updates, featuring key developments on the Northeast Trail, Eastside Trail, Southside Trail, Westside Trail, and Northwest Trail. These projects reflect the Atlanta BeltLine’s vision to be a global beacon for equitable, inclusive, and sustainable city living.
Northeast Trail Updates
The Northeast Trail – Segment 1, which runs alongside Piedmont Park, has made significant progress. Construction is steadily advancing in three phases, with substantial work already complete in Phase I, which includes replacement of the asphalt trail beginning at Westminster Drive, NE, and running adjacent to Clear Creek. Final handrails are set to be installed in June, following the completion of planting. The project is slated for completion in the fall of 2024.
Eastside Trail Developments
Improvements are nearing completion along Ponce de Leon Avenue, enhancing its connection with the BeltLine. Sidewalk reconstruction, landscaping, and light pole installations have been completed, and bike lane improvements have also been finalized. Pavement striping is projected to finish by the end of June.
Southside Trail Developments
Work on the Southside Trail—Segments 2 – 3, running from McDaniel to Boulevard, has begun. Construction mobilization started on May 20, 2024, and the trail construction is expected to conclude in early 2026. Similarly, progress is observed in Southside Trail—Segments 4 – 5, which runs from Boulevard to Glenwood. Work will continue through spring 2025.
Westside Trail Updates
The Westside Trail—Segment 4, a 1.3-mile segment stretching from Lena Street and Washington Park to Law Street, is witnessing steady advancement. Steel has been placed on all five bridges or elevated trail sections with concrete now poured on four of the bridges. Trail paving has commenced from Lena to the first elevated section of the trail. The project is expected to be complete in summer of 2025.
Northwest Trail Developments
The Northwest Trail, spanning several segments, is also seeing significant advancements. Segment 1, a 0.8-mile section running along Peachtree Creek, has started procurement procedures for project materials, with construction expected to start in Q3. Segments 2, 3, 4, and 5 are also making steady progress in design finalization and real estate acquisitions.
Transit Study
Finally, the Atlanta BeltLine is conducting a Transit Study, aimed at identifying a preferred transit alignment in the North-West BeltLine quadrant. The plan will support the concept of infill stations announced by Mayor Dickens in April 2024, with a public meeting targeted for summer of 2024, to discuss the progress of the study.
