Atlanta Authorities on the Lookout for Kmauri Burnett
Hey Atlanta! A serious situation is unfolding as authorities ramp up their search for a suspect named Kmauri Burnett. Detectives are looking to connect Burnett with two counts of murder and a shocking vehicle hijacking that has sent shockwaves through the community. The investigation into Burnett ramped up earlier this year, and details are starting to emerge.
How It All Started
It all kicked off on the night of January 7, 2021, when police got a call about a stolen vehicle at around 11:20 p.m. The owner of the car had temporarily left it running in front of a restaurant while popping in to grab some food. Unfortunately, someone took this as the perfect opportunity to hop in and drive off. When the victim noticed what was happening, they tried to stop the carjacker. However, they were met with a threat from a handgun, leaving the victim shaken and helpless.
In the midst of all this, the car wasn’t empty. Inside were a precious black Alcatel iPad, plus a wallet and some bank cards that belonged to the vehicle’s owner. Losing personal belongings is frustrating, but the story takes an even darker turn.
Tragic Events Unfold
Just 35 minutes after the carjacking, at approximately 11:55 p.m., police received another urgent call. This time it was about a shooting at the Encore Hookah Bar & Bistro located at 320 Luckie St. NW. Sadly, upon arrival, officers found a male victim lying deceased from a gunshot wound. This was a shocking turn of events, especially so soon after the vehicle theft.
The true gravity of the situation continued to escalate when, on April 20, 2023, at around 6 a.m., officers were dispatched to several shooting reports across the city. The first incident occurred at 2030 Main St. NW, where authorities found another male victim who had been shot multiple times. Tragically, this victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The situation grew even more alarming when police were called to a second location—2479 Abner Terrace NW—shortly after the first shooting of the day. There, officers found a third male victim who, despite being rushed to the hospital, succumbed to his injuries. With so much violence occurring in such a short amount of time, the community is understandably on edge.
