ATLANTA- The long arm of the law has finally caught up with a man suspected of robbing armored trucks in metro Atlanta last year. According to information released by federal authorities, Demarco Areius “Gloxk” Johnson was apprehended after being on the run since 2023. The Tucker and Snellville communities can finally breathe a sigh of relief following his arrest.
Two major heists took place in Tucker and Snellville, metro Atlanta in 2023. The Tucker robbery happened on Feb. 6th, and another took place in Snellville on March 20th. Shortly after these incidents, authorities had identified Johnson as the suspect and issued a federal arrest warrant on Aug. 23, 2023.
In their continued search for Johnson, the FBI announced a reward of up to $10,000 to anyone who could provide information that would lead to his apprehension and subsequent conviction. However, details of his arrest were not immediately released by the authorities.
According to federal authorities, the 22-year-old Johnson is facing multiple charges. These include conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act robbery, Hobbs Act robbery, and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. The Hobbs Act, enacted in 1946, prohibits criminal acts such as robbery, extortion, and violence which interfere with interstate or foreign commerce.
Given the seriousness of the charges against Johnson, it would seem that the suspect allegedly used a firearm during his robbery spree of the armored trucks. According to eyewitness accounts, a firearm was used to intimidate and threaten those who tried to repulse him during the Tucker and Snellville heists.
The news of Johnson’s arrest has ignited various reactions from the Atlanta community. For some, his arrest brings relief and a sense of justice, while others are still in shock that such heinous acts took place in their neighborhoods. Local law enforcement has been hailed for their persistent efforts in tracking down and finally apprehending the suspect.
Federal and local law enforcement officials assure the public that efforts to bring to justice those who engage in such acts of violence will not relent. In a statement, they reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety and holding all criminals accountable for their actions.
As residents and neighbors in metro Atlanta come to grips with these events, it is hoped that the arrest of Johnson will deter others from engaging in similar acts. For now, the communities of Tucker and Snellville can look forward to enjoying their peaceful existence, free from the fear of such violent encounters.
