Decatur Gears Up for New Affordable Housing Development for Seniors
Exciting news is on the horizon for the lovely city of Decatur! A new affordable housing development aimed at seniors is set to break ground soon, bringing with it some much-needed living space for our community’s elderly members. The project, called Solace Grove, is located at the corner of 2nd Avenue and Tilson Road, and it’s designed to help seniors aged 62 and older who are at or below 60 percent of the area median income (AMI).
What’s in Store at Solace Grove?
Solace Grove will be a thoughtfully designed community consisting of a three-story main building that includes 89 apartments. This building won’t just be a place to live—it’s going to be a hub for activities and social interactions. Inside, there will be a cozy community room where residents can gather, a fitness area for keeping active, a computer room for those who enjoy tech, and an arts-and-crafts space for creativity to flow.
In addition to the main building, Solace Grove will include six charming single-story triplexes, each containing six units. Residents will be able to choose between a range of one- and two-bedroom units, ensuring there’s something for everyone. The layout is perfect for seniors looking for a safe and engaging environment.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has also lent its support through various tax credits, and Dekalb County officials have played a crucial role in bringing this vision to life.

To date, they have built over 3,000 units of affordable housing nationwide. Their impressive Atlanta portfolio includes the Intrada Westside, which successfully secured financing in 2021 and welcomed residents just last year.
