Atlanta Celebrates Michigan’s Swimming Triumph
ATLANTA, Ga. — Excitement filled the air at the McAuley Aquatic Center this past Sunday, November 24, as the University of Michigan men’s swimming and diving team clinched the top spot at the highly competitive Georgia Tech Invitational. With a spectacular total of 1,418 points, the Wolverines demonstrated their prowess in the pool and showcased the incredible talent within their squad.
Record-Breaking Moments
This year’s Invitational was nothing short of exhilarating. One of the standout performances came from Gal Groumi, who dazzled spectators by breaking the men’s program record in the 100-yard freestyle during the preliminary session. Groumi clocked an impressive time of 41.98 seconds, only to raise the bar even higher in the finals, shattering his own record with an astounding finishing time of 41.75 seconds.
And that wasn’t the only highlight of the day! Jon Jøntvedt emerged victorious in the grueling mile swim, completing the event in a commendable 14:48.20. His teammate, Joshua Brown, wasn’t far behind, securing an impressive second-place finish with a time of 14:53.71.
