Atlanta City Council Runoff Elections Set to Ignite Excitement in Fulton County

Atlanta Races Heat Up: Brace Yourselves for the Runoff!

Hey Atlanta! Buckle up, because two of our buzzing local city council races are heading to those nail-biting runoff elections! It’s going to be an exciting time in Fulton County as citizens get another chance to make their voices heard after the November general election.

Now, here’s the gist: In Georgia, when no candidate secures that all-important 50% + 1 vote majority threshold, the race goes into a runoff. And that’s exactly what’s happening in both the open Atlanta City Council Post 3 (at large) race and the East Point City Council Ward B (at large) race. What does this mean for you? A second chance to weigh in and make sure your favorite candidate gets the spot!

Who’s in the Running?

For the Atlanta City Council Post 3, it’s down to the wire with Nicole “Nikki” Evans Jones and Eshé Collins gearing up for the next round. Nicole took the lead with just over 40% of the votes, while Eshé came in at just under 24.5%. It’s a close call, and every vote is going to count big time in this one!

Over in East Point, we’ve got Jermaine Wright and Shean Atkins going head-to-head. Jermaine is slightly ahead with 31.87% of the vote, while Shean is hot on his heels with 30.77%. Talk about a tight race!

Mark Your Calendars!

Alright, folks, let’s talk logistics. Early voting kicks off this Saturday, November 23. Yup, that’s right around the corner, so if you’re keen on voting early, get ready to head to the polls!

Bear in mind that there won’t be any early voting on Thanksgiving Day (November 28) or the day after (November 29), which is another state holiday. Plus, there’s a heads-up that there’s no weekend early voting in the final weekend before the big Election Day.

Speaking of which, make sure to circle Tuesday, December 3 on your calendar—that’s the day our community will have the final say in these pivotal runoff elections.

Stay Tuned!

If you love staying on top of all the latest updates and live coverage, there are plenty of ways to stay in the loop. Remember, notifications can be turned off whenever you want, so you decide how much you want to know and when.

So, Atlanta, get ready to flex those civic muscles again and make sure your voice is heard. Whether you’re rooting for Nikki, Eshé, Jermaine, or Shean, it’s your chance to make a difference. Let’s gear up for an exciting end to this election season!
