Atlanta Restaurant Closings, August 2024

Big surprises happened in the Atlanta food scene this month. A couple of popular places are now closed. Here’s the lowdown:

Rwby Says Goodbye and La Santa Tacos & Bar Steps In

Last month, fans of the eatery Rwby were taken aback when it closed suddenly, leaving folks with reservations in the lurch. But it’s not all doom and gloom. The Mexican restaurant La Santa Tacos & Bar has snapped up the space and plans on opening this fall. Just last year, Rwby swapped places with the Lawrence and quickly landed on the foodie map.

L.O.A. Social Club Closes its Doors at The Interlock in West Midtown

`

In West Midtown’s Interlock building, L.O.A. Social Club is now locked up in silence. It underwent a bit of an identity crisis at the start – the public had to jump through hoops to find it with complicated elevator directions. And then it turned into a private-only club this past January. Awesome developers Slater Hospitality were behind the project; they’ve got other stunners around town like Skyline Park, RFD Social and the Rooftop Terrace. The posh 38,000-square-foot space boasted a rooftop pool and sweeping menu. No news yet on what will replace it, but the real estate folks promise it’ll be worth the wait.

End of an Era: Eventide Brewing Shuts Down in Grant Park

A decade-long favorite, Eventide Brewing in Grant Park shut off its taps without warning this week. The local community is rallying behind the beer house, spilling stories of good times at the tasting room. Navigating the rigid Georgia beer laws hasn’t been easy for craft brewers. Profits get sliced as these guys need to use a distributor to get their brews to eateries and stores. There’s some hope though. Senate Bill 163, or The F.O.A.M. Act, is getting some traction. If it goes through, small breweries will be able to sell direct to local businesses, meaning no more middlemen! But for now, others may follow Eventide’s lead. Not sure yet whether the guys at Eventide will keep making their beers.

No Opening Bells for Toranj Middle East Kitchen

Toranj Middle East Kitchen had big plans to take over the former Atmosphere French Bistro site in Piedmont Heights. But now, there’s a ‘For Sale’ sign hanging out front. Major renovations have already been done, but the doors never officially opened. The kitchen was supposed to serve up a fusion of extravagant Persian and other Middle Eastern cuisine and fancy cocktails. Keep an eye on this space.

That’s all the closure news from Atlanta’s restaurant scene this month, folks! Be sure to check back here for more updates.
