What’s Cooking, Atlanta? Your August Foodie Guide is Here!

Hey, food lovers of Atlanta! August is going to be a fantastic month to satisfy your taste buds with a variety of thrilling food and drink events, deals, new menu rollouts, and restaurant openings. Expect everything from Atlanta’s Black Restaurant Week and Topgolf Ice Cream Truck tour, to unique National Oyster Day celebrations and exclusive Summer Olympics food specials. There’s clearly a little something for each one of you!

Upcoming Events

From August 4-18, Atlanta’s Black Restaurant Week will feature mouthwatering menus from Black-owned restaurants, food trucks, and dessert shops all over Atlanta and the neighboring metro areas. Part of the line-up are Gocha’s Tapas Bar, Icey Chicks, Virgil’s Gullah Kitchen & Bar, Apt 4B, Wrap-A-Lot Fresh Express, Atlantic Grill, Buttermilk Biscuit, Marietta Proper and Belle & Lily’s Caribbean Brunch House.

What’s more, August 6 sees the Topgolf Ice Cream Truck swing by Topgolf Atlanta Midtown, with a second stop in Alpharetta on August 7. Free ice cream and Topgolf goodies will be on offer, given out while stocks last.

Can’t get enough cheese? Join the Cheese Please Workshop at Epicurean Atlanta on August 9, 6:30-8:30 p.m. for a multi-course menu featuring Sweet Grass Dairy cheeses from Thomasville and wine pairings from Stoller Family Estate. A representative from Sweet Grass Dairy will educate attendees about the cheese-making process.

National Oyster Day Celebrations (August 5)

On National Oyster Day, several restaurants across the city are treating oyster lovers to fresh, succulent oysters. Highlights include the happy hour at BeetleCat (Inman Park), where oysters from the East Coast are just $1.50 each. Meanwhile, at The Optimist (Howell Mill Road), you can enjoy $1.75 select oysters or classic roasted oysters with parsley garlic butter and crunchy breadcrumbs, during their 5-6 p.m. happy hour.

Summer Olympics Specials

In celebration of the Summer Olympics, BeetleCat will be offering special Olympic donuts through August 11. The Interlock will also be dedicating food and drink specials, as well as a paint-and-sip class, in honor of the global sports event.

New Menu Items/Deals

In celebration of Atlanta Cocktail Week (August 19-25), pass holders can look forward to discounted signature cocktails at participating locations. Cheba Hut is introducing new cocktails, the Palm Reader and Sacred Sipper, both priced at $8. Duck Donut is satiating sweet cravings with its new Donut Ice Cream Sandwiches. At the same time, Cowboy Chicken is introducing a new banana pudding dessert, created by Chef Pat Shotwell.

Openings/Closings

A host of eateries are opening their doors this August. These include Austin’s Cocktailiery & Kitchen at Serenbe in Chatt Hills. With their menu inspired by the cocktail lounges of 1920s Paris and London, they’ll be serving handcrafted cocktails and locally sourced ingredients. Casa Balam (Downtown Decatur), Chick-fil-A (Roswell Road in Sandy Springs), and Gene’s BBQ (Hosea L Williams Drive SE) are also launching.

New Arrivals in the Food Scene
