Atlanta Greek Picnic Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

The Annual Gathering of HBCU Alumni

Atlanta, GA – Today marks the commencement of the annual Atlanta Greek Picnic, celebrating a significant milestone– its 20th anniversary. The Picnic is a grand gathering of HBCU alumni, with an expected turnout of up to 20,000 people. They will be participating in various cultural and historical events all through the week, climaxing with the main event – the picnic on Saturday at the Founders Plaza of Morris Brown College.

The Atlanta Greek Picnic takes pride being the largest gathering of D-9 fraternities and sororities in the country. It brings together alumni and students alike from across the nation to celebrate unity and camaraderie in a festive atmosphere.

Honoring History and Cultural Identity

The week-long celebration is permeated with numerous socio-cultural activities anchored to shape communal bonds and to foster a collective historical and cultural consciousness among participants. From step shows, BBQ cook-offs, to educational seminars and networking events, it is an event that harmonizes fun, fraternity, and a deep sense of African American heritage.

The picnic is invariably one of the most anticipated parts of the week. The participants assemble at Founders Plaza to revel in music, dance, and savour a ‘Greek’ feast. Indeed, the vast open space reverberates with the energy and vibrancy of the united Greek-letter fraternities.

Imprint of Two Decades

In 2004, the Greek Picnic was originated by Tiwa Works as an avenue for college-educated men and women who share membership in these historic organizations to connect and celebrate their shared history and contributions. 2024 marks the 20th year of this fantastic tradition, which has undoubtedly left an indelible imprint on the Atlanta community and its participants over the years.

Atlanta Greek Picnic – More Than Just a Picnic

The event is not restricted to picnic and fun games. The week-long series of events are imbued with a vision – to strengthen community ties, to consolidate mutual assistance, and discuss pressing issues of their community.

The Atlanta Greek Picnic is more than just a picnic; it is a platform to network, to learn, and to grow. It gives participants an opportunity not only to reconnect with old friends and make new ones, but also become a part of various initiatives that the groups participate in, such as scholarships, community service, and mentoring programs.

Unity in Strength and Celebration

The 20th anniversary of the Atlanta Greek Picnic celebrates the unity and formidable bond shared by HBCU alumni nationwide. This week will be filled with a myriad of activities that not only look back on the history and successes of these organizations, but also look forward to the future. The unity and vitality this event continues to foster is a testament to the enduring legacy and positive impact of these groups in the community.
