Museum of Graffiti Pops Up in Atlanta with Sneaker Stories Exhibition

ATLANTA – For a city known for its vibrant culture and rich historical tapestry, there’s another feather in the cap to look forward to. The Miami-based Museum of Graffiti is bringing its traveling exhibition, Sneaker Stories, to Atlanta’s lively Ponce City Market. This captivating exhibition is scheduled to enliven Atlanta from May 31st to June 2nd.

Sneaker Stories: Delving into the Graffiti-Sneaker Relationship

This unique exhibition, sponsored by Modelo, chronicles the fascinating history and dynamic relationship between graffiti art and sneaker culture. The exhibition will feature a host of enlightening displays, exhibiting rare sneakers alongside the inspired graffiti artworks.

Carved as a faux sneaker store, the Sneaker Stories pop-up provides an immersive journey through the significant collaborations between renowned graffiti artists and global brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Reebok. Marvel at the 20-year journey that solidifies the idea of sneakers being more than just footwear, morphing into an essential symbol of urban culture and art.

Featuring Limited-Edition Sneakers and Original Artworks

Exhibition-goers will get the chance to see rare, limited-edition sneakers displayed in harmony with their corresponding original artworks. These creative displays are by noted artists like Futura, Cey Adams, Eric Haze, Claw Money, and Faust. The exclusive designs by these artists can reach up to $20,000 in the secondary market, attesting to their appeal and cultural significance.

“Fighting Spirit Stories”: A Panel Discussion

Adding another layer of depth to the experience, Alan Ket, co-founder of the Museum of Graffiti, explained their mission with this exhibition. “Through Sneaker Stories, we aim to acknowledge and celebrate the artists from the global graffiti movement who have left their imprint on major American brands like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas,” Ket said. “With our collaboration with Modelo, we’re conveying this unique cultural narrative to Atlanta, allowing the community to delve into the tales behind the art and the artist often misunderstood due to misconceptions about spray paint.”

Visitors are also invited to attend a panel discussion titled “Fighting Spirit Stories” on June 1, at 6:30 p.m. Moderated by Atlanta’s Dr. Dax, the panel discussion will feature Cey Adams, followed by a release and signing of a limited-edition print.

Fostering Accessibility and Encouraging Interaction

The exhibition aims to be as accessible as possible to spread the love for graffiti and sneaker culture. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. With a first-come, first-served basis for the events, everyone has an equal opportunity to imbibe the vibrant energy.
