Georgia Power Plans to Hire Hundreds of Lineworkers Over the Next Few Years

Georgia Power, the largest electric power company in Georgia, has officially announced its ambitious plan to employ approximately 170 lineworkers annually over the course of the next three to five years. This comes as a significant move to enhance the power grid performances and to respond to the needs of a rapidly expanding economy.

Investing in the Future

The company has already begun to implement its plan by introducing scores of new members to their team. These recruits are primarily focused on the construction of main transmission lines and substations, critical areas in the power supply chain.

“Our line crews hail from diverse backgrounds, representative of the communities within Georgia that they reside in and serve. We honor and appreciate their dedication and contributions this April,” said an official representative from the company. They further added, “Georgia’s robust and burgeoning economy necessitates our commitment to constantly enhancing our power grid. As our economy grows, lineworkers will undoubtedly play a pivotal role. Indubitably, it’s an exhilarating opportunity for individuals who want to join us and contribute to shaping the future of energy in the state.”

Collaboration with Technical Colleges

To streamline the recruitment process, Georgia Power is joining forces with various technical colleges across Georgia. More than 60% of the newly hired lineworkers at Georgia Power are graduates from Electrical Lineworker Apprentice Certification (ELAC) programs offered at these technical institutes.

This collaborative effort aims not only at recruitment but also at facilitating the training for these individuals, thereby equipping them with the skills needed for job opportunities within the company. The list of currently participating technical colleges includes Atlanta Technical College, Coastal Pines Technical College, Georgia Northwestern Technical College, North Georgia Technical College, South Georgia Technical College, and the West Georgia Technical College.
