Fani Willis Talks Race Issue Against Judge’s Warning at Women’s Award Event in Atlanta
In the state of Atlanta in Fulton County, Fani Willis, the District Attorney under scrutiny, made a stand against claims surrounding her recent legal trials. In a speech delivered at South Fulton Women of the Shield Awards held on Friday, Willis took an assertive stance amidst a stern warning from Judge Scott McAfee to refrain from “playing the race card.”
Fani Willis Defies Judge’s Warning
“It’s difficult, constantly needing to validate yourself twice or thrice,” stated Willis during the event. Despite recent restraints placed on her racial discussions, Willis affirmed, “They say I shouldn’t talk about race. But I’m bringing it up regardless.” Her comments seemed to directly oppose Judge McAfee’s recent order, in which he condemned her “playing the race card” as “legally improper.”
Judge Scott McAfee’s Decision
Judge McAfee’s remarks were a part of his decision that dictated that Willis could remain on the 2020 election interference case against former President Donald Trump, but only if special counsel Nathan Wade was removed due to her alleged “improper” affairs with him. Willis is yet to respond to the accusations.
Willis also came under scrutiny for a speech she delivered at a church in Atlanta earlier this year. In her speech, she suggested that the criticisms she and Wade were facing were racially motivated. Although Willis affirmed that her accusations of racism were not geared towards the defendants in her case, Judge McAfee highlighted that her stance was unclear, bringing her close to jeopardizing her case.

“Being Black comes with its unique hurdles. But I see vast potential in this city, full of influential African American leaders. I value the sacrifices you all have made to reach these posts,” Willis addressed her audience at the award event. The event, sponsored by the South Fulton Police Department, honored 12 women making significant contributions to law enforcement and community progress.
Willis lastly thanked South Fulton Police Department Chief Keith Meadows for his “insight to organize an event like this where we acknowledge the struggle endured by individuals serving their community.”
