Exciting Times for Georgia State Football as New Panthers Join the Family!
ATLANTA — The buzz around Georgia State football is palpable as they announce an impressive 29 new signees for the 2025 early signing class. Head Coach Dell McGee shared his excitement, applauding the tireless efforts of his coaching staff, players, and the recruiting department, all of whom contributed to bringing this talented group of young athletes into the Panther family.
“I would like to thank everyone involved for their dedication and hard work,” Coach McGee reflected. “These new Panthers will bring a wealth of talent, character, and family values, with an emphasis on education.”
A Record-Breaking Class
This year’s signing class marks a significant achievement for Georgia State, being the largest in the program’s history. Not only that—it’s also the highest-rated signing class in the 2025 Sun Belt Conference, according to 247 Sports. In terms of national rankings, Georgia State finds itself sitting comfortably at 59th according to ESPN.

Defensive Powerhouses
Starting with the defensive line, Jartavius Flounoy from Colquitt County High School stands out at 6’1” and 306 pounds, having made a significant impact with 10 sacks and 19 tackles for loss during his senior season. Also bringing talent from Alabama is Alex Mullings, who excelled in both offensive and defensive roles at Demopolis High School.
Kelan Butler, another exciting signee from Jefferson High School, is a speedy outside linebacker known for his impressive five sacks in his senior year. He also logged 10 tackles for a loss and showcased his speed with a freshman 100-meter time of under 11.5 seconds!
A Dynamic Offense
On the offensive side, Derrick Avery Jr. lights up the stats with a remarkable career at Chattahoochee High School, where he became one of only 29 players in Georgia High School history to achieve 3000 receiving yards! With 33 touchdowns over his high school years, he will surely be a formidable force for the Panthers.
Another standout is Tojuan Peyton Jr., whose stats this season alone include 1708 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns! Not just a running back, he differentiates himself with his ability to be a key kick returner, averaging over 215 all-purpose yards per game.
Big Men on Campus!
When it comes to bolstering the offensive line, Pherleski Martin Jr. from Shiloh High School is a substantial addition at 6’4” and 318 pounds. He played a vital role in helping his team accumulate an impressive 197 rushing yards per game.
Equally exciting is Jeremiah McCrimmon, who arrives at Georgia State after stints at both Colorado and Coahoma Community College, where he showcased his skills as an impactful offensive lineman.
Versatile and Talented
Not to be overlooked, Zion Lawson is a versatile outside linebacker who played both sides of the ball for Jackson High School, rounding out an exciting defensive strategy. Not only did he shine in defensive roles, but he also showed his offensive skills with a receiving touchdown this past season.
With athletes hailing from across Georgia and even states like Alabama and Mississippi, the depth and diversity of skills promise to enhance Georgia State’s gameplay significantly. Some other notable signers include Ladainnian Martin, a running back with 1167 rush yards in his season, and Chandler Covington, a fierce edge rusher who will bolster the Panthers’ defense.
