Atlanta, Georgia – May 14, 2024

Three 18-year-olds, including a student from Alpharetta High School, tragically lost their lives in a one-vehicle crash in Alpharetta on Tuesday night. Two other teenagers were also injured in the devastating accident.

Details of the Crash

The incident occurred around 8 p.m. on a bend in the road along Westside Parkway between Maxwell Road and Hembree Road. According to the Alpharetta Police Department, it is believed that the driver lost control of the car, causing it to overturn. Authorities suspect that speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the crash victims as Aryan Joshi, Sriya Avasarala, and Anvi Sharma. Joshi was a senior at Alpharetta High School, while Avasarala and Sharma were freshmen at the University of Georgia.

Victims and Survivors

Five individuals were in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Tragically, Joshi and Avasarala succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The other three occupants, including the driver, were transported to North Fulton Hospital for medical treatment. Regrettably, Sharma passed away on Wednesday afternoon.

The driver is a Georgia State University student, and the fifth passenger is also a senior at Alpharetta High School, according to officials.

Response from Authorities

Fulton County Schools announced that a wellness team would be deployed to Alpharetta High School to provide support to students in light of the tragedy. The high school has implemented various resources to assist students coping with the loss, such as access to counseling services and a text helpline.

Investigation Ongoing

The Alpharetta Police Department is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. The section of the street where the incident occurred was closed until the early hours of the morning as authorities reconstructed the accident scene and gathered evidence.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the young individuals who lost their lives in this heartbreaking event. Atlanta News First will continue to provide updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
