16-year-old Killed in Overnight DeKalb County Crash Identified by High School
ATLANTA, Ga. (Here News) – A 16-year-old is dead after a crash early Tuesday morning in DeKalb County, according to police. DeKalb police say officers responded to the area of Northcrest Road and Chamblee-Tucker Road for a single-vehicle rollover crash around 1:40 a.m. When they arrived, they found the driver dead at the scene. Two other passengers in the car were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, they said.
Lakeside High School Identifies Victim
In a letter to parents, Lakeside High School identified the victim as junior Guillermo Aguas-Bahena. Another junior was also in the car, but he is expected to recover from his injuries, the school said.
“It’s just sad, very sad,” a Lakeside High parent told Here News on Tuesday. “My heart goes out to the families, the sisters, the brothers, I couldn’t imagine, I have twin boys they’re 16, they’re 10th grade here, I just cannot imagine losing a child.”
Aguas-Bahena is the fifth Lakeside High School student to die in a car crash this school year. In September, five teenagers died after their car went over the wall of a raised ramp and fell onto an I-85 connector — including three Lakeside High School students. Then in February, another Lakeside High School student died after police said the driver, a fellow student, was driving under the influence.
Support for Grieving Community
“We understand the enormous impact the death of another student will have on our community,” the school said in its statement about Aguas-Bahena’s death. “Resources and personnel for grief counseling are here to support anyone affected by this tragedy.”
